How Vivasoft Maintained Software Delivery During a Country-Wide Internet Shutdown

Vivasoft's core engineering team, who went to Nepal to ensure uninterrupted software delivery during a nationwide internet shutdown

Overview

In July 2024, a sudden nationwide internet shutdown in Bangladesh created an immediate operational risk for ongoing client projects. Vivasoft was actively delivering multiple engagements across Europe and the APAC region, where uninterrupted connectivity was essential.

A predefined continuity response was activated without delay. A core engineering team was relocated to Nepal, and a temporary offshore workspace was established to restore secure internet access.
Development activities continued without interruption. Client communication was maintained. All delivery milestones and service commitments were met despite the external disruption.

The Background

In July 2024, Vivasoft’s Dhaka office was managing multiple active client projects across different time zones in the Europe and APAC regions. The teams were working on a major engagement with one of the company’s largest clients, Azerion. At the same time, several live projects were underway with Klikit in Singapore and Indonesia, as well as FindIt in Indonesia.
At that point, operations were running smoothly. All project teams were on schedule, and delivery milestones were being met as planned.

The Challenge: Nationwide Internet Blackout

An unexpected disruption occurred on July 18, 2024, at around 9:00 PM, when the Government of Bangladesh declared a nationwide internet shutdown along with curfew due to escalating political tensions. The event later became widely known as part of the “July Movement in Bangladesh.”
Following the shutdown, the country’s business operations came to a standstill. Bangladesh’s digital infrastructure, which depended heavily on internet connectivity, was immediately impacted. E-commerce platforms were unable to operate, banks experienced transaction delays, and companies with international operations lost access to their systems, teams, and client communication channels.
The most critical challenge for Vivasoft emerged the following day, July 19, which was a regular working day. Continuous internet access was essential for software development and global collaboration. Without connectivity, project execution and client communication became impossible. It wasn’t just about the internet shutdown either, because of the curfew, even on-site operations got a hit.
Teams engaged in active client projects were affected the most, as they were required to attend meetings, deliver updates, and continue development work. The situation unfolded rapidly, leaving no time for preparation. It became clear that normal conditions would not be restored in the short term and could potentially worsen. Immediate action was required.

The Solution: Establishing a Temporary Offshore Workspace

At the same time, Vivasoft’s CEO and several senior management members were overseas for client meetings. They were contacted by phone, and after multiple discussions, the leadership team formulated a response plan.
An initial attempt was made to coordinate with government authorities to identify a possible resolution that would allow continued operations with global clients. However, there was no clear timeline or certainty around this option.
Rather than waiting, Vivasoft decided to relocate a core team of 40 engineers to Nepal within the next few days. This group was responsible for delivering several active client projects. Within 48 hours of arrival, the team transformed a hotel called “Trekkers Home” into a temporary working office.
Shortly after the relocation, operations were fully restored. Development work resumed, client communication was re-established, and project delivery continued. The team remained in Nepal for an entire month, even after connectivity conditions in Bangladesh began to stabilize. This decision was taken as a precautionary measure to ensure uninterrupted service under all circumstances. The objective was clear: to maintain continuity regardless of how the situation evolved.

Outcome of the Immediate Response

For the duration of the month-long relocation, the temporary Nepal office operated without disruption. All delivery timelines were met, and client systems continued to function without interruption.

Although the situation was unforeseen, Vivasoft’s rapid crisis response enabled the company to uphold its delivery commitments with minimal friction. Client services continued without delays, and communication remained consistent throughout the period.
Client feedback following the incident reflected strong appreciation for the company’s handling of the crisis. Clients acknowledged Vivasoft’s ability to operate effectively under extreme conditions.
After project work was completed, an internal review highlighted a key realization: Vivasoft had successfully maintained operations despite conditions that halted most business activity nationwide. The relocation was not only a crisis response but also a real-world test of operational continuity under unexpected pressure.

Looking Back

When conditions returned to normal, Vivasoft reflected on the experience. One clear takeaway was the importance of a client-first mindset. Throughout the crisis, clients expressed concern for employee safety and remained patient during the relocation and setup period. This support served as a significant source of motivation for the teams involved.
Another important factor was the support received from the hosting facility in Nepal. The hotel staff facilitated a rapid transition, allowing a functional office setup within two days. Their cooperation played a critical role in sustaining uninterrupted operations throughout the month.

Going Forward

The experience reinforced the importance of preparedness and resilience. While external disruptions cannot always be controlled, Vivasoft reaffirmed its commitment to meeting client obligations without compromise.

As a result, the company accelerated its global expansion strategy. The first phase included establishing operations in Kathmandu, Nepal, and Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. The Kathmandu office was inaugurated in November 2025, with more than 20 employees already onboarded and plans to expand to a 50-person team in 2026. The Kuala Lumpur office is scheduled to launch in early 2026.

In addition to these locations, Vivasoft continues to pursue further global expansion. The objective is to ensure distributed operations capable of supporting clients across time zones under all conditions.
At the end of the day, it all comes down to one thing: meeting client commitments. It’s not just a priority, rather it’s a promise that Vivasoft strives to uphold in every circumstance.
